Woman in White (Audio Clips) + Creating Primary Posts

Hello All,

I’ve decided to re-post Natasha’s comment about W.i.W audio clips here, as part of the main thread. FYI: to post a main thread instead of adding a comment to an existing post, go to the main wordpress site, http://wordpress.com and sign in using the info on blackboard (user name: victorianafterflives, password engl540). Click on “Dashboard” in the upper right hand corner, and that offers you the opportunity to create a new post.”

Hi everyone,

Here’s a link to clips from The Woman in White musical Prof. Tongson mentioned in class today. I searched high and low hoping that I still had the cd somewhere, but alas, it did not make the move to LA. (I wonder why…oh yeah…because the voices grate on my nerves.) But I did find a cd of the Jane Eyre musical if anyone’s interested. I got it as a gift and I haven’t listened to it yet (haha, you’re thinking, she listens to it every day, but no, I truly haven’t listened to it yet)…feel free to ask me for it, if you’d like. I doubt it’s great, but who knows, we could be surprised.

Here’s a question I’ve been pondering and perhaps you can help answer: what about this book might lend itself to being adapted into a musical? And what about Victorian novels in general that make them musical fare? Does it have to do with the intended audience of musicals–old fogies who think they can experience “culture” by getting dressed up for a broadway play–or is it something greater in the novels themselves?

I’ll write my more formal informal post later but just thought I’d give you my thoughts for now.

Best,
NSAH
